Goodbye Flamingos! Come Back Soon!
by Ryan Ross
flamingos flapping, color mapping dawn
a flurried, out of frame migration rite
a rosy, fallen feather petaled lawn
I stumble as I drift through morning's yawn
inspecting sand where landed near last night
flamingos flapping, color mapping dawn
I glance near water's edge at painted prawn
the plumage lain unleavened, baked in light
a rosy, fallen feather petaled lawn
I’ve seen my share of fair majestic swan
but nothing like this early sunlit sight
flamingos flapping, color mapping dawn
I reach toward the clouds they've landed on
but settle for left bristles soft and bright
a rosy, fallen feather petaled lawn
and with a breath of stratus now they’ve gone
withdrawn into the coral morning's height
flamingos flapping, color mapping dawn
a rosy, fallen feather petaled lawn
